Kids of Childhood Cancer Org is a foundation that was created by parents and friends from Brenner Children's Hospital Pediatric Oncology Ward who have struggled through the Childhood Cancer Journey. The foundation raises money to support Brenner families with financial help for medical bills and insurance. They also provide food vouchers, gas cards, clothes, toys, parking vouchers, meals, whatever may be needed on an individual basis.

The foundation was started in 2009 by Sarah and Charlie DiGerolamo from Kernersville, whose son Vinny, age 7 – is fighting his second battle with cancer.   "Before we entered the Childhood Cancer World with our own son, we had no idea this underground world of Little Warriors even existed.  I was ashamed of my own naivety.. the mind frame that it could never happen to us.. it does happen to happens to an average of 46 little unexpecting children every single day.  Approximately 7 of those 46 will pass away every day.  Childhood Cancer is the #1 killer in America's Children today.  We hope to ease the journey of the families following in our footsteps..."  Sarah said.

Since October, 2010, the foundation has teamed up with Olive Garden Restaurant in Winston-Salem, NC, for "Serve A Dish" nights. Every other Wednesday evening, the kids and their families are able to order meals, provided by Olive Garden, which are delivered to them at the hospital by the foundation.  This is one of the few things that the kids and families can look forward to. In addition, The Loop Pizza Grill in Kernersville has hosted special Kids of Childhood Cancer nights, where they donate 10% of their proceeds back to the foundation. The next Loop event is scheduled for Thursday March 24, from 5pm-10pm.

With the support from Olive Garden and the Loop, along with donations from many generous donors, the foundation was able to purchase several Nintendo Wii systems for the ward, and provide snacks on the ward for the patients and their families. The foundation hosted a Christmas Polar Express Night at Brenner Children’s Hospital in December, complete with popcorn, hot chocolate, and Santa Claus. The foundation also "adopted" 5 families for Christmas, has helped several families financially providing financial assistance for small bills,, a partial house payment,  and  a special trip to Disney for one family.

Kids of Childhood Cancer Org will be holding their 1st Annual "Walk 4 Our Kids" 5K walk/run on Saturday May 21, 2011. The walk will be held at the Fourth of July Park in Kernersville, beginning at 8:00am. Registration and additional information is available on the website.

The Kids of Childhood Cancer Org Mission is to support families going through Childhood Cancer treatment at Brenner Children's Hospital, to ease the Childhood Cancer journey. They strive to make hospital stays more comfortable, raise Childhood Cancer Awareness, fight for more funding, and one day find a cure.  Until that day comes, we will continue to support the warriors and their families facing the beast named 'cancer'.
